First, let me say that I have nothing but respect for those that work in law enforcement. There are millions of men and women who put on that uniform everyday and keep our communities safe, and lend a hand like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! So, when I read that a San Antonio dealership that was giving a discount to law enforcement, I thought "Hey, good for them!"

Until I read the details:

Available until Fri., Jan. 31, 2014, the Law Enforcement Appreciation Offer will allow law enforcement officials to receive an additional $500 off the internet price of any new or used vehicle in stock in the Ingram Park CDJ inventory. The only requirement for obtaining the offer is to present the dealership with proper proof of law enforcement employment. (PR Newswire)

Five-hundred bucks....really? I challenge you to find me a dealership that is not willing to take 500 dollars off for any customer regardless of profession right now. There are two days left until the end of the month, a $500 discount is nothing to move that inventory out before the first. Five-hundred dollars off a vehicle is not going to make or break whether or not someone decides to buy if they were not in the market. So Ingram Park CDJ gets some good press and free advertising because they are "helping out" our men and women in uniform.

I don't know what is worse, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or "pretending" to give a discount to law enforcement when you would have dropped $500 off that car anyway. So here is the thing Ingram Park CDJ, you want to do this? Make it 5 GRAND off for law enforcement or STFU!

worst thing is they will probably roll that $500 right off the trade in

It could be an incentive on top of other pricing. For example - say they negotiatee a price for the car, then the discount is applied? The officer gets 500$ on top of any other reductions in price.

Wish I felt the same.

Even still, many dealerships offer $500 off the purchase of whatever...and the article states $500 off the "internet price." My guess is the "internet price" if probably marked up by at least $500

When I was younger I felt different. There are a-holes out there, just like any profession. But then I got to know some real people in uniform who really go out of there way to help people out.

The only time I ever brought in a vehicle for trade in was a near-dead 82 Volvo 244. I could have sold it for maybe $400 if I wanted to spend the time dealing with that, and the dealer gave me like $100 for it. If it had been an operable, reliable car I would never have brought it in. I am sure they tried to sell it as a below-$1000 bargain buy for advertising purposes or something.

The thing that bugs me the most is when dealerships and in rebates that 90% of the population does not qualify for. When I was selling Chrylers I had a customer that was going to drive 5 hours to another dealer b/c they had a Dart advertised for 1500 bucks less than our price. So I did detective work. I called the other dealer about the car and what the price would be. They explained to me that that internet price was including a Military discount of 1000 dollars and another 1000 dollar discount if you had a family member that was leasing a Chrysler product. Those were real rebates but to present them to the public like you are guaranteed to get them is down right criminal. Any way it turned out that our price was actually 500 dollars better.

When we were shopping for my wife's new car, we found several "deals" that upon inspection were military
